Period property during a rewire with new electrical cables being routed through walls

Full & Partial Rewires

Complete or partial rewiring for older properties. We minimise disruption and ensure everything meets current regulations.

Rewire Options

Whether you need a full strip-out or a targeted upgrade, we tailor the work to your property.

Full Rewire

Complete replacement of all wiring, accessories, and the consumer unit. Ideal for properties with original wiring from the 1960s-1980s or older that has never been updated.

Partial Rewire

Replacement of specific circuits or areas of the property. Common when extending, converting a loft, or where only part of the wiring has deteriorated.

Rewire Following EICR

If an EICR has flagged C1 or C2 observations related to wiring condition, a full or partial rewire may be the recommended course of action.

Rewire During Renovation

The best time to rewire is during a renovation when walls and floors are already being opened up. We coordinate with builders and plasterers to minimise disruption.

What a Full Rewire Includes

  • Strip out of all existing wiring
  • New consumer unit with RCD/RCBO protection
  • New lighting circuits to every room
  • New ring or radial power circuits
  • Dedicated circuits for cooker, shower, immersion
  • Smoke and heat detectors to current regulations
  • New sockets, switches, and light fittings
  • Full testing and Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC)
  • Building Control notification via self-certification

What to Expect

The typical stages of a domestic rewire.

1

Survey & Quote

We visit to assess the property, discuss your requirements, and provide a detailed fixed-price quote.

2

First Fix

Cables are routed through walls, floors, and ceilings. This is the most disruptive phase and typically takes 3-5 days for a 3-bed house.

3

Plastering

Your plasterer makes good the chased walls. We pause to let this cure before returning.

4

Second Fix

We return to fit sockets, switches, light fittings, and the consumer unit. The board is energised and all circuits are live-tested.

5

Testing & Handover

Full testing to BS 7671. You receive your Electrical Installation Certificate and all circuits are clearly labelled.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a full rewire take?

A typical 3-bedroom semi takes around 5-7 working days for the electrical first and second fix (not counting the plastering gap between). Larger or more complex properties take longer. We will give you a realistic timeline at the quoting stage.

Do I need to move out during a rewire?

Not usually, but it depends on the size of the property and how much disruption you are comfortable with. During first fix, there will be dust and noise, and power may be off for periods. Some customers prefer to stay elsewhere for the first fix phase.

How much does a rewire cost?

It depends on the size of the property, number of circuits, accessibility, and the standard of finish required. Every quote is fixed-price with no hidden extras. As a rough guide, a full rewire for a 3-bed semi typically starts from around the mid-thousands.

Will you make good the walls?

We chase neatly and minimise damage, but the plastering and decoration is typically handled by your plasterer or decorator. We are happy to coordinate timing with other trades.

How do I know if I need a full or partial rewire?

An EICR is the best way to determine the condition of your wiring. If the wiring is original and over 30-40 years old, a full rewire is usually recommended. For newer properties with isolated issues, a partial rewire may be sufficient.

Can you rewire without chasing walls?

In some cases, we can route cables through floor voids, ceiling voids, and behind dry-lining to reduce chasing. Surface wiring with mini trunking is also an option for outbuildings and garages.
